concrete is brittle

lift it off the sub base and it breaks up

try it next time you have to break a base up

Concrete - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

concrete hold up sky scrapers mate,it is piled into the ground and used as safe material that won't sucumb to pressure, somehow i think if it just crumbled then there will a lot of buildings around the world in danger of collapsing including your house

everybody's right to a degree, there are so many variations in concrete bases it's a bit like say how much to tile my bathroom without any extra info.

Any other info OP? like how deep? steel reinforced? is the cost to remove the decking and put it back after?

thanks for your replies, I was thinking it is rather allot but then I suppose with the skips (he said they are £200 each and I would need 4 of them), hire equipment etc. It's about 6 inches thick, so I think a sledge hammer might not do the job and he may need a drill maybe.

I suppose we could have a go ourselves but it looks pretty thick. There is no garage walls etc as my decking is over it. I am just worried as it is directly near my kitchen. I will get a detailed price in writing shortly. I will also get 3 quotes, but I have called a few people and only him so far has turned up! :76:

you not done it then

concrete is brittle and breaks easy

get a bar under it , take the weight while someone belts the concrete

the trick is to hit it a meter away from the bar

my late father was a block paver and thats how we broke up the old concrete bases

How do you get a bar underneath the foundations? can you explain it again on how you did it x 🙂

  • The cost is just to remove the base only.
  • It is around 6 inches thick
  • I don't think it is steel reinforced
