just wondered... does anyone ever get many requests to re-grout? (i mean tiles done by other people, not cos you've been called back cos the grouts rubbish from your doing)

do you advertise that you do re-grouts? what sort of price would you charge and how would you work it out? etc..

just been thinking about what to put on my leaflets/business cards/ on the van on on the website (well when i get round to tiling properly in the near future) is it the kind of thing customers would want or isn't there much call for it and they just decide on replacing the tiles instead of just freshening up the grout...since it has to be scraped out and cleaned up first... which im guessing would be time consuming.. especially if the tiles have been laid by a single handed blind man with a banana to lay out with :lol:

any thoughts?

Personally I try and avoid, The last one I did there was crack's in the grout and surprise surprise the tile's fell thru the plasterboard backing, They must have been leaking for year's. The studwork was rotten and some had dissapeared and the joist's were turning soft on top, It then became my problem to sort out, Then became an insurance job but would'nt pay for the grouting.

By coincidence, I was asked to look at a re-grout job this evening. For many of the reasons stated by Whitebeam, I advised the customer that I would actually charge more to re-grout than to re-tile. "Oh she said, I'll have a re-think then".

She will either call back and ask me to do the re-tile or find some other mug who is desperate for the work to solve her problem - either way I'm not too fussed.

I avoid re-grouting as much as possible.

I did a regrout recently and it did take more time than actually tiling would take but seeing as the tiles were not available anymore and it wouold have meant taking shower screens down etc they paid a day rate for the job. Not the best work in the world and IMO i dont feel you can do a 1st class job. It may be an improvement and also add afew years onto the life of the bathroom/shower but thats all. I tell my customers this and then its up to them.

I avoid regrouting like I do the plague. If you really want to be a masochist, then atleast use a Fein Supercut or a reciprocating saw with a de-grouting attachment.

Using a grout rake when regrouting is like showing up for a sword duel with a knife; you're going to get hurt.
Classic quote Marcus....very true, I wouldn't base a career around it...lol:lol::lol:
