Quote them 20k to regrout, or a proper quote to re-tile.

First mistake is using a fein for regrouting. The fein is only really any use for taking the grout right out round one tile. A hardie knife or Stanley hook blade is 10 times faster for regrouts. Don't mind them myself if I have nothing else on but always test a section of grout when pricing. Some scrapes away easily and some is rock hard.

as peter for me, test the grout but with 10 by 10s you will have along job on your hands i would discuss this with customer and try to steer them to a re tile

Thanks all. Seems the consensus is to tell them to retile it instead. Especially with 100x100 tiles I reckon it will be quicker too, especially as they want new silicon sealant around the bath too. Cheers for all the advice!

Managed to get him to see our way of thinking re tiling. Got a bathroom and en-suite to retile now! Brill!!

I recently revitalised a bathroom with a bottle of white Universal Sealant grout colourant and a tube of Silicon. Tiles were 600x400 over a 20 sq m wall area and it took me four hours to clean and re-vitalise. Everyone who sees the bathroom think its been recently re-tiled. However, I can frankly see the limitations (it passes the 18" test that my brother-in-law uses, but closer in you can see its painted) but if you are selling a house and want a quick refresh its perfect. Otherwise I fully endorse the comments that re-tiling is ultimately better.

A bit of 240 grit can work wonders. Sand enough to expose fresh grout and sometimes it doesn't even need regrouted.
