hi
any suggestions for this?I am just talking about Bangor slates -ie so seal on them to be protected -just their natural state.
Of course I could just scrape of the (white) paint carefully and then rub it with water (it is not that much of an eyesore but it is a bit offensive)
But I would ideally like to leave it unnoticeable as possible.
What about white spirit? (followed by a genersal wash of the whole slate.. .

Hi & welcome, in my opinion white spirit will do nothing as the paint is set. You will need nitromoors stripper I expect, though the chances of removing all traces is fairly remote . What sort of area are we talking about? You may need to apply some finish with a black hue to mask residue methinkls, though some times a patination oil may absorb in to slate & lift . I may suggest WD 40 as it has miracle qualities. I've never done what you have a problem with,so a bit of guess work here, & of course you'll need to try a small area in the first instance...Good luck

Hi geordief,

Are the tiles already sealed? If yes don't use white spirit, as this will lift the sealer out and the paint will most likely mix with it, creating a sticky mess which will mean a complete strip down of the affected tiles. If they have been sealed, I would find out who the sealer is made by and contact the manufacturer, or check their website for details of how to remove contaminants like paint without affecting the impregnator that may already br there. Best of luck.
