Removing old tiles

Hi,

I have started removing my old kitchen tiles but some of the plaster is being pulled of as well. The plaster is only 1-2mm thick.

When I am ready to re-tile will I need to skim over this or can I just prime & tile over these areas?

I have included a couple of pics to show you.

Many thanks

Nige.

Hi Nige,

Thanks for the pics makes it easier to give advice. The larger holes would be best to fill with plaster before tiling, The smaller scratchings should be fine. Scrape the excss adhesive off, wipe the wall down with a damp sponge to remove any dust and tile no real need to prime in this case.

I don't think so Grumps not in this case, The picture is a real help and as long as the wall is sponged down and the addy trowelled on whilst still damp then I can't see any real reason to prime, but by all means if you would feel better you could prime.

That's not suppose to sound like I'm having a bet each way. If I were to do the job I would not prime in this case just a damp sponge.

For me I would just skim over with rapidset adhesive if the shallow areas only a mill or 2 deep.

Thanks for the replies 🙂

I would say the deepest part is not much more than 2-3mm and most between 1-2mm 1st pic is a little misleading.

I was thinking that I might get a better bond using just adhesive?

Kind regards

Nige.
