Removing old tiles

Hi all,

I just have a quick question about removing old tiles and preparing to re-tile a floor.

The old flooring is....well I'm not sure what the proper name for the type of tile is...but they are like a rigid vinyl tile stuck down with some nasty black stuff? Apologies for the lack of technical terminology.

When i take up these old tiles do i need to remove all the old adhesive aswell or can the new tiles be laid on top of this?

If it does need removing any tips as to what works best?

I take it it's a screed floor and what is the walls, plasterboard, gypsum plaster etc

Sounds like Marley tiles you have. Just be careful as these could contain Asbestos. Try to remove as much of the black glue (bitumen) then give the floor a skim of Ardex Arditex.

sorry should of said, yes the floor is screed and I know the walls are definitely not plasterboard.

I would probably lay a two part slc, as enduro on removing the tiles
