hi this one`s for the plasterers on the forum. I have got a job to do which involves taking tiles off an external wall of a shop front about 8m and making good with a smooth rendered finish to paint. could the tiles be rendered over as it looks a time consuming job to get the tiles off which are also painted with a gloss paint thanks in advance John

no,

its just not done mate...knock off the tiles with a hammer and bolster or kango hammer and coat the wall in 'sbr' and scratch coat and render a couple of days later or the next day if the weathers good..

you can render over tiles internally using a mechanical key, acryllic primer and carlite bonding as the render/backing coat but even thats not the pro way. the fact that its external work and you are trying to use sand and cement render over tiles would end in disaster!!

hope this helps

'Consuming time' is what it takes to do some jobs as they are meant to be done im afraid - too many short cut merchants out there these days. :furious3:
