I have a black limestone floor (currrently unsealed) that has some greasy and stained patches. I want to clean and seal it.

I could scrub, clean and impregnate with a sealer, but I am wondering a good finish might be difficult to achieve. Do the impregnating sealers accentuate the greasy spots?

I am also considering using boiled linseed oil as a natural alternative, which should cover up the greasy spots! What are the views on the use of boiled linseed oil?

Thanks

Hi there,

How old are the flags and do you know when they were laid? If they are original to the house and are ages old, then the finish you are aiming to acheive will dictate this.

To remove grease stains from Flagstones, I will use a strong mix of an alkaline cleaner such as LTP Grimex with a secondary clean using Aquamix Poultice Stain remover to actually remove the stain itself. It takes a while, but it works really well.

Please be careful when using boiled linseed oil, as it will make the flags dramtically change in appearance, and may oxidise inconsistently with the varying densities in the surface of the flagstones. Always do a test area. It would be suggestable to do a good clean and use a number of coats of impregnating sealant for lasting protection.

Regards,

Tom

Re: Removing stains from granite paving

Had price stickers completely stuck to my granite paving so I stupidly sprayed WD40 on them before they were laid so it ran down the tile as well & they are badly stained. What would be the best way to clean them please before my husband files for divorce!!

Wd40.....

Try this , it might help with the oil..

LTP Spot Stain Remover

Description: LTP Spot Stain Remover is effective at removing the majority of mineral oil and cooking oil stains (including oil spatters). Suitable for use on quarry tiles, terracotta, limestone, bricks, cement and paving. Combine with LTP Fullers Earth to help remove older cooking oil stains.

Tips: Pick this product if you have spot stains from hot oil and other absorbed domestic spillages....
