Repair to plaster prior to tiling for shower over bath

Hi to all,hope somebody can advise,

I have removed some old tiles from around the bath ready for a new bath to go in and re-tile the walls.The tiles alongside the bath came off with very little damage to the wall and I thought my luck was in.
At the end of the bath that the electric shower is situated the tiles came off easily but so did most of the plaster behind them, back to the brickwork in a large section once I had removed all of the loose material.

The wall is to be tiled the electric shower will remain.I have a tanking kit which I intend to use but my query is do I use plasterboard to repair the large square hole then tank and tile or should I be using other materials to do the repair.Tiles to go on are 350x200 ceramic and I have BAL Wall and Floor bagged adhesive.

Help would be much appreciated.

I would check the rest of the walls, if one part is blown then other areas maybe in the same condition

is the "back to brickwork wall" external? as in an outside wall?

if the rest of the plaster work is stable and not coming off then you could patch it in with this ARDEX AM 100 from ARDEX UK and then use the tanking kit that you have got.
Or you could remove the rest of the plaster work and then fix tile backer boards to this area

Whitebeam,thanks for replying.The other walls appear to be fine,the only wall areas that were tiled were the two sections alongside and at the foot of the bath and there just 2ft up the wall from bath level.I suspected that the old tiles had allowed water ingress from the shower over the years.The tiles have been on since we had the house so at least five years.The side wall plaster stayed firm when the tiles were removed a few small patches came off with the tile and adhesive but no more than I would have expected.

Peckers-thanks for the Ardex suggestion.That looks like the kind of material I was hoping would be suitable.

why not hack a square section of the bad plaster out and dot and dab a piece of plasterboard on?

Cheers Doug,I have removed all the bad plaster and have approximately a 2ft square,I will probably take a bit of what appears to be good just to make sure,If I then put a piece of plasterboard on do I then just carry on with the tanking and tiling as normal.
