I am starting to refurb my en-suite bathroom and have ripped out the bath to replace it with a shower (there is a bath in the main bathroom next door and as the kids have long since left home a shower in the en-suite is more practical)
The side wall of the bath is tiled down to bath level. The end wall is 1 metre wide with the airing cupboard hot water cylinder etc on the other side. There was already a shower on the end wall and there is a pump in the airing cupboard. The walls are paramount board with minimal studding at the edges of the boards.
I am fitting a circular shower into the corner between the end and side wall. The shower tray is circular with a square corner. Because the waste pipe is boxed in, internally, in the diagonally opposite corner to where the shower is going I am building a plinth (22mm ply on 4 x 2) in order to keep the waste pipe above the joists.
I have taken the tiles off the end wall off and plan to fit a new sheet of plasterboard over the top of this wall. On the side wall I am planning to stick some cheap tiles below the existing tiles down to floor level and then put new tiles over the top. Because the shower is circular there will only be about 75cms of tiled wall either side of the corner. The shower head, which is on a tall narrow flat panel and includes massage jets, is going across the corner so all water is being directed away from the tiles towards the door (sliding).
Sorry if this is a bit long winded but I wanted to set the scene properly. Now to my questions:
It seems that it advisable to tank the walls in the shower area but as the tiled walls are small and there is no direct spray onto them is it necessary? If it is I rather like the spec of the Dura-wp (which I wouldn't have heard about but for this excellent forum), is it still on offer Wetdec?
Can I apply Dura-wp onto the tiles that I am going to tile over on the one wall and directly onto the new plasterboard on the other and then down onto the plywood plinth (which I also intend to tile before fitting the shower tray?
I have done quite a bit of research into materials for this project and am confused by all the different adhesives available. If what I propose is OK what make/spec adhesive is the most suitable?
Thanks in advance,
Ian
