i was talking to a guy today who was doing a shower and he asked what i charged per meter....

i told him that it depended on a few scenarios..my prices were flexable depending on x, y and z.....he said, i have quite a few houses, come and give me a price to do the lot...i said ok, then he said, i hope your not expensive, tilers are 10 a penny now and i pay £8 per meter :yikes:

i just looked at him and said, you are jokin right, he said no, why what were you expecting...i said i was prepared to go as low as £12 p/m2 but that would have to be decent sized areas to hit and the prep would need to be good...he just laughed and said, thats way too high., nobody pays that for a tiler...

i know things are tight out there but out there but please for the sake of this industry dont work for £8 a meter...its ridiculing the trade and you might as well get a job without the hassle of being self employed.....stand up to these builders etc who expect this, walk away because before you know it, they'll be expecting £5 per meter... you'll be squeezing the life out of the game!

ed

I was undercut on a job the other week

they got three bulgarian painters and change

I hadnt over priced it either

I said to them are you sure they were bulgarian as they are not in the eu

oh yes they said

poland allows bulgarians in to work and after a while they are entitled to come here under the eu rules

so we now have that to contend with:mad2:

£8m2 :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

i've started not even negotiating my prices any more(apart from knocking off £20 or so to seal the deal)

if you start letting these muppets dictate what they want to pay then it will only get worse.when people start that nonsense they are best being told to find someone willing to give there services away for poor work return

I've just been in to see the result of one of these 2 a penny tilers that fitted Travertine tiles, his boss said it was pre-sealed when he supplied the builder - NOT, it didn't require sealing - DOES, so you can guess what I'm going to be doing next week! Amongst this I will be cutting expansion joints into the floor, replacing cracked tiles, removing grout stains it goes on :mad2: and on:mad2: and on :mad2:

i'm sure bulgaria are in the EU, as of 2007 or 2008...they came in jointly with romania....
