I've got a Hitachi router, does the job, but the bit gets stuck in the collet.

Makita all the way. Soft start so the bugger don't whip around and break ur wrist. The secret is to change the router blade every 4 mitre joints, it's gets expensive but perfect cuts in laminate no frayed edges.

The Hitachi is miles cheaper. I suppose like most things itll depend how often you use it. I change the bit on each job.
Its served me just fine.

Don't think this is powerful enough for worktops. Minimum 1800 watts I think.

thats why i was looking at the makita 2100 its an animal lol it will go through worktops with its middle finger out lol
