Rubi or Montolit?

Hi all,

I'm about to embark on a 2 week tiling course in Warrington and have contacted the instructors for some information regarding tile cutters to purchase. Whilst they have given me sound advice to try some different ones out on the course before buying one; they also said that rubi tile cutters were for 'girls' and that they used Montolit cutters(a mans cutter!!).

Has anyone got or used a Montolit cutter as i would be interested in experienced opinions. Also where could you purchase one from? What about Rubi, are they good?

If you are about to be taught to tile with a monty then it might be worth getting one..

but if you find that you cannot get away with not seeing the cutting wheel once you finish the course then maybe think about the rubi...

Warrington courses use both types of cutter. I did my course there and used both makes of cutter. Both are excellent cutters but I found the monty more versatile and bought one of those.

I have sigma cutters and love them.but a cutter is only as good as the man using it! I have 3 manual cutters.2 sigma and one small monty.love em all but would try anything and the new lightweight rubis look the business.

Come on rubi users! You girls or not? That sounded like a cheeky sod in warrington! Some of these so called instructors in these centres might know more about a cut on their book than a cut on tile.hehe.

Montolit, Sigma and Rubi. In that order - but it just so happens that that is the reverse order in which I learned how to use them. Coincidence? Perhaps not.

Seriously though, they are all good - it is just down to personal taste. More importantly, just remember that you always end up getting what you paid for, so if you plan to be using the tool in 10 years time, spend as much as you can afford on one of the three makes I mention above. You won't be disappointed.

For me it's Rubi, Brought the first one years ago and never looked back. Have used a Montolit and a Sigma, both good cutters. Its just that I learnt with a Rubi, as the saying goes, "go with what you know". As Nardini says, spend as much as you can afford.
