Discuss Rubi TX-700 vs. Rubi TX-700-N … what are the extras? Are they worth having? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

I was in Tile Giant today checking out the Rubi TX-700 tile cutter. They had a TX-700 for me to play around with but they didn’t have a TX-700-N. They also didn’t have the N price on their system (they gave me a price for the 700 and will email me the N price). They also gave me a Rubi catalogue. I have to say that the catalogue is not very useful to answering my question … and that is … what is the real difference between the TX-700 and the TX-700-N? Has anyone here used both? What do the additional N attachments do for you and have you actually had need for them? (from the Rubi catalogue we could see they both had the same cut dimensions and break force, and one of the Tile Giant guys thinks that the N might have an ally bed making it lighter, but they didn’t know what the extras did – and the Rubi catalogue doesn’t answer that. Thx guys and gulz - Stan

thx whitebeam - do you find you actually take measurements off that? i must admit with my current cutter i mark with steel rule / marker and cut to that, but do leave my stops locked for repetitive cuts. (but admittedly my cutter is probably junk compared to a 700) ... fyi - Rubi sell those extras separately in their catalogue, but its not clear what will fit to exactly what - it would be funny of you could upgrade a 700 to an N wouldn’t it. (Im sure you cant – they wouldn’t have done that would they?)

I don't think the extras would fit onto a standard TX700.

The only other difference, after thinking about it, is on the bed where the guide is. On the TX700, the bed is level with the guide, on the N, it goes off at a 45degree angle (I hope you know what I mean  )

Some tilers don't like the big guide arm on the 700n , so rubi do the 700 standard with a guide only on the left and the 700n the guide is both sides...

Thats it, but a big differnce to the TX series now is that Rubi have brought out the lightweight versions made from alloy and they are available Now and hopefully Dave @ tradetiler will be getting stock.

thx Dave. ref the ally bases ... the manager at local Tile Giant just mailed me with the prices, the new models cost more because they are lighter / have the new ally base! ... IMHO thats not progress - they should be lighter and cost the same! ... waiting to hear what Dave from tradetiler has to say ref this one. (might have to make a decision if i want a heavy cheaper one)

Aluminium as a raw material costs more than steel and is harder to work and weld.
