Worried

Hi, I got my small bathroom re-tiled (wall and floor) with ceramic tiles.
I used a professional tiler but I have some queries as the job was completed in 1 day (fixing and grouting in 10 hours).
The adhesive he used was durabond wall & floor adhesive (NOT the rapid one) - on the box it says to wait 24 hours before grouting, but the tiler started grouting after 6 hours, he also used 56kg of adhesive for an area of 15 sq.m. - which seems excessive.
Jobs looks great on the eye but I am not sure about the consequences of a rushed job and for not waiting before grouting? Any comment and help are much appreciated!

I normally wait until the next day to grout a job, but I know some on here do grout on the same day.

56 kg does sound quite a lot though, but I've never used durabond before.

Have a look on here, it's website for durabond products and has a calculator for Tile Adhesives

http://www.rsgroup.ie/assets/adhesive.htm

In choose Durabond flexiset adhesive, 8mm bed thickness and it comes out at 54.6 kg required to cover 15sqm

were these tubs of white ready mixed adhesive ?or boxes of powdered adhesive not clear on that...Gaz

Thanks Fekin and Gaz!!
Gaz, the adhesive came in buckets and seemed ready mixed.
how do I assess if it was a good tiling job? I.e. that I can safely use the bathroom again and the tiles will not seep humidity and water?
Some other details, I was left with layers and layers of grout's dust- it took me 3 days to get rid of it (I am still coughing!)...got the dust mask now, all normal right?
Should I use the additional sealing product to finish the job? 😕
Sorry I am not a pro and thanks again!

That does seem alot 3 days but there is always dust after we've finished the job that needs dusting off,I wouldn't bother with an additional sealer although I personally wouldn't use that product in the first place.I always grout the next day.

The best way to officially thank us is with cold hard cash🙂

When you say he did it all in 10 hours is that including a break of 6 hours before grouting? as in he had 15sqm on the walls in 4 hours? He an octupus?
Hope you don't mind me asking but how much did you pay to have it all fitted?

You can thank peoples replies if you wish so by looking at the bottom right corner of their post and click the THANK button, next to the QUOTE and REPLY.

He started at 7am and started grouting around 4pm for about 2 hours - I didn't see him taking ANY breaks before grouting, just fixing tiles and then je went straight into grouting - he might have stopped for while when I went to buy more adhesive (1 hr drive)...he was really fast but the tiles seem fitted nicely.
It all seems too rushed so I am getting worried. A part from the tiles looking great how do I actually figure out if they are fitted right?
Penno, the job costed 500 punds (excluding all materials) - whad do you think lads? Did I get ripped off or did I get a super deal?
fekin, I cannot see any thank button just the quote and reply buttons...

hi mate to be honest i think your getting worried over nothing , however if hes used so much adhesive it may mean hes had to bed out quite alot .i.e put more adhesive behind the tiles because the walls are out, this obviously means it needs more time to dry...

however grouting the same day is not uncommon, also if hes done 15m2 in a day and it looks ok then this guys obviously got speed , speed comes with practice so he may have been tiling some time and know what hes doing (he mite of thought it was fine to grout )

shaun.....

Sounds like a very good price to be honest mate. Seems like he is a fast worker and knew what he was doing. Stop worrying mate 🙂
