Any of you old timers used this method before?Gaz Dave?

Lads, used to use sawdust years ago when all your floors were grouted in sand&cement, method, usually 3to1 mix wet, then 1to1 mix driers over the top, (nice flush joint) quick wash over then sawdust. used to leave a cracking job if done properly. A lot of tilers used to cut corners and not bother with the driers, sawdust straight over the wet sand&cement which obviously used to stick in the joints. thats when builders tiling companys etc banned the use of it. But done properly it was the dogs ********. Had to be soft sand by the way.

tTilings a lot easier nowadays dave, wash boys rubi cutters etc. but in the days of using sawdust for finishing off grouting the majority of tiling was fixed monolithic. ( laying sand&cement screeds & fixing tiles in one operation). Wet screeds you would pepper with dry cement and fix the tiles, semi dry screeds you would mix a cement slurry and fix the tiles. Cutting the tiles was done using a pin hammer and tungsten tipped chisel. The monolithic method is still used today on certain sites mainly german spec, ie BMW workshops, supermarket floors ALDI, LIDL etc. Would,nt advise getting involved as its really hard graft, theres easier ways to make your money. Looking at your age dave you probably just missed that period by 7 or 8 years,
