Often I see it being used in the US and Canada.

It’s incredibly rare to see anyone use it in the UK or GB

I’m wondering why this is?

Could it be cost or could it be that the Price isn’t so much of an issue over the pond and a higher price is paid in general for Tiling/Prep work.

I’ve used the board a few times since it’s release and really like it. I do sometimes specify it on the high end work but as a general rule any standard XPS board will be far cheaper.

It’s a shame really as I’d like to use more Kerdi.

I’m still waiting to see if it has any weak points. XPS tile backer boards does.

What are the advantages of this over using Delta board for example?

Kerdi is cement free (some eco advantage), very light, has printed gridlines, can be used to construct freestanding partitions etc with all the Schluter fixings. But apart from that it does pretty much the same as Delta, Orbry etc. I found it difficult to cut with Stanley blade, but lightning quick with fine saw.

The very slight weak point of a cement faced XPS board is that the cement face is not waterproof. That’s me clutching at straws though.

Schlüter Kerdi board seems more rigid to me. Not sure on the tech specs regarding stud spacing vs an XPS board. I read that it must be 19mm minimum for 600mm stud spacing. Probably similar to XPS

Kerdi is the only board that is water proof in its core and also on the exterior face too. It's a good versatile product. It's cost and availability are factors in its popularity over here, same as all schluter products. I think over in the US it's all available at the local stores etc and well established as the go to products.

If I can I always specify @Schlüter-Systems Ltd kerdi boards in wetrooms.
The only downside i find is that it’s knly available in 600mm widths.

That’s one thing they don’t use in the States- Kerdi-Coll. Just standard ‘thin set’

I wonder why we out spec them?

Coz testing has to satisfy Europe, not just the UK. Ansi testing is only for the US so they can please themselves.
It is very frustrating that the US with some pretty extreme weather can use things externally that we "can't".

Thanks:thumbsup:

I suppose I should now be complaining about those damn bureaucrats for having such high standards.

They will be limiting the speed of our cars before long 😉
