Installed a new bath this week in a re-fit i'm doing, £500 Duravit jobbie, just had a call from the customer to say one of the kids has put a massive scratch in it:yikes:

Wouldn't have liked to be that kid this morning. The baths only been in a matter of hours.

Don't think these customers are going to accept a repair so a new bath it is. But has anybody had any success with a repair on an arcylic bath? I mean totally seamless?

no not seamless from the kit and it has to be left 48hrs to cure and then polish out, even then its visible, you will know its there Rob and so will a discerning client
the bath doctors are pretty good but I dont know any now as I dont do that sort of work any more, but i did see a perfect colour match on a yellow bath a few years ago
if you could see it , it wasn't perfect :lol::lol:

If its acrylic it will be at least 5mm thick maybe 8 if it is a quality bath I have had to do this several times over the years
If its deep you use wet and dry starting with more course then finner keep rubbing dont be afraid may take up to 15 20 mins then finish polishing with t-cut this realy is a bit of a trade secret I should be charging:smilewinkgrin:.
The best one for me was an old couple had a 6inch scratch really nasty i said shut the door leave me for half hour then come back when they did i said wheres the scratch they could not believe it had gone asked me how i did it never told them its more impresive if they dont see how you do it:thumbsup:

we use"" magic man they are based on the south coast, pricey about £140 but its a lot cheaper than a new bath and you wont see the repair

Rob, we've had to call the specialists a few times, and the pricing in $ seems to be about the same as what Gary lists in pounds...the repairs have always been good enough to be acceptable to the client, however, as others mentioned...the repairs have never been completely invisible.

You know what Gary they were the first people I called.

So before I left for the job this morning I called a few people....

1st Was Magic Man who are based just outside Brighton (i've seen his van about plenty of times) - Outcome £125+Vat for a polish out (Not likely as if it's only that deep i'll do it) or same price of £125+Vat for a fill and spray (48hr cure time) Ok fair enough.

2nd Was my bathroom supplier, explain what's happened and they agree to the bath at almost cost £445

3rd was another supplier for a repair kit, £18 plus my time of course.

So I turn up and the customer keeps telling me it's gone down to the blue undercoat. I see the scratch and I figure out that the blue can't be an undercoat as this is a quality bath with around 10mm of white acyrlic and this scratch isn't deep enough. I run my nail over it and sure enough it feels bad but the blue colour is troubling me... I'm starting to wonder if this is surface mounted so I ask if he has an rubber eraser... 2 minutes later and it's gone! I have no idea what it was but it wasn't a scratch but something ground on to the surface.

End result is one very happy customer and a 12 year old boy that will live to see another day
