scratched tiles

Did a job with B&Q (!)black 'brick' tiles. Could black grout be the reason the surface has become scratched. (A bit coarser than other colours)glaze too thin? Going to do a test this week but wondered if anyones come across this before.

Never had that problem with Mapei. Could it not be the tiles were already scratched and the grout showed them up?

Sounds odd mate but I have seen high gloss tiles scratch before. Not lately though I must admit. I guess a test would be the best way. You sure they werent scratched before grouting but the grouting has highlighted the marks ?

customer says unused tiles arent scratched, going to pick a couple up tomorrow weather permitting.
Supposed to fit a tap for her tonight, asked where I was, snowed in I said, she replied oh I couldnt get to work either !! So if she couldn't get out...??

you may find the grout has scratched them best as you say do a test but some cheap black gloss will scratch with grout let us know how it goes

I have seen ultracolour plus scratch tiles before! Happend on a job recently that I grouted for someone. The previous guys who was on the job had used ultracolour white on metal mosaics which were chrome and brushed steel. The grout had affeceted the finnish.

The guy was taking too long to come back and finnish the job so I was asked to finnish grouting using BAL and fitted a few sheets of mosaic.

Saying that, I have come across some of those bevelled brick tiles that have been badly scratched straight from the box and some times the glaze can be poorly finnished, have even seen a sort of white undercoat under neath the glaze on some of them.
