Yes, sanded grout can scratch a polished travertine, limestone, or marble (MLT). More if the grout mix is a bit dry and you apply a lot of pressure while floating the grout in the joint. It is always best to use a non-sanded grout with MLT tiles. That also helps down the road if the tiles need to be ground and re-finished at a later date.

Usually with a honed tile you do not see the scratching very often but it is possible. I have never seen a problem with sanded grout on tumbled MLT but it could also be an issue at restoration time.
