Scratches

Hi

Can any body help. I have scratched a couple of travertine tiles, the scratches are slight but annoying. Is there any way of disguising them.

Any help would be very helpfull.

They should buff out with a polishing pad providing they aren't too deep, otherwise they may need filling first.

I take it they are honed and filled travertine..?

Thanks for the advice. They are honed and filled. I have tried a polishing pad with some polishing cream that i had for the kitchen work top this has worked quite nicely thanks. You can still see them very close up but most people would not notice.

While i am thinking can grout scratch the tiles when applying. The grout is tiletech and seems a bit grity.

Yes, sanded grout can scratch a polished travertine, limestone, or marble (MLT). More if the grout mix is a bit dry and you apply a lot of pressure while floating the grout in the joint. It is always best to use a non-sanded grout with MLT tiles. That also helps down the road if the tiles need to be ground and re-finished at a later date.

Usually with a honed tile you do not see the scratching very often but it is possible. I have never seen a problem with sanded grout on tumbled MLT but it could also be an issue at restoration time.

try the new weber grout, 1 to 10mm joint non scratch . very easy to use no probs at all.
