I used to grout the areas near where I needed to Silicon first, then grout the rest of the job, then dust off a little near where I needed to Silicon using fresh 'blue roll' (the big blue tissue stuff or similar) then Silicon.
 
Thank god dan!!!! Thats my way of doin it, wouldnt dream of grouting up to a Silicon line. And i also use the half bath of water method to put movement halfway and not overstretch Silicon.
 
I must have been totally cr*p at it then,20 yrs of sealing first then grouting never 1 come back
 
Never tried sealing first but sounds good, i always have trouble getting the sealent to stick when i go on top of grout (unless i come back the next day) have also done the hairdryer thing but that don't work for me either!!

Kin hate sealing, has always caused me problems but i am pretty sure i am doing something wrong.
