self assesment advice

Its tax time for me, i normally use a accountant, but i'm thinking about doing it my self, online. I was wondering how easy it is to do, and could anyone advise me on how to go about things. Or would i be better off using my accountant. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I Started out doing the self assessment mullarky.........but kept messing it up, so got an accountant.

He, if doing it right, should be able to save you more than enough to pay him. Mine did

It's quite straightforward if you know what you are doing, but I agree with CJ - an accountant may well be able to save you a few quid through claims/deductions which you don't know about. As long as all your records are in order, an accountant shouldn't charge you much to do it.
If you decide to do it yourself, you have to register online first, at HM Revenue & Customs: Home Page. Just click on "self assessment" on the home page and when it takes you to the new page, there'll be a link on the right for registering. Once you've filled your bits in you'll have to wait for them to send you a code to activate the service before you can use it - there's only 3 weeks left so better get registered quickly!
