what is your view on self levelling over electric UFH before tiling ?

I was always lead to believe that this was "best practice" , have had it confirmed by Mapei technical and numerous others including my NVQ tutor.

Not really interested if someone says " well I have never done it that way"

Just want to know -

Is it best practice ?

Surely you will not be able to get as good bed of adhesive if you did not self level before. Also you are likely to get air pockets. And would have more chance of damaging the cable.

Thank you guys.
The reason for this post is because I have started doing some tiling for a certain company.
Guy said that " none of his tilers had ever self levelled over the cable before and that would push the price up "
I replied that just because they did not do it, did not mean that it was the correct way !
Stood my ground. He accepted my advice.
Just nice to hear that a few of you agree in principle.

certain company I used to do work for said that the only way to guarantee not snagging the ufh was to spot bed the floor tiles ffs!! Told them that it was either my way or the highway!!

I have not used SLC yet, but on my course (Tradeskills4U) we were taught to just spread the adhesive on top of the UFH mat or cable. It was also stressed that we should use a plastic trowel. I'll keep a close eye on this thread because I will be installing UFH in my new kitchen when it's built. It's going to be about 30sqm. I fully understand the reasons for using SLC. However, it's a scary thought using it on such a large area. Cheers Sean
