I have not used SLC yet, but on my course (Tradeskills4U) we were taught to just spread the adhesive on top of the UFH mat or cable. It was also stressed that we should use a plastic trowel. I'll keep a close eye on this thread because I will be installing UFH in my new kitchen when it's built. It's going to be about 30sqm. I fully understand the reasons for using SLC. However, it's a scary thought using it on such a large area. Cheers Sean
don't let it worry you Sean, done lots a fair bit bigger than your kitchen and never had a nick on a mat yet. You can get a tester tho' that will let you know if you do damage a wire, just in case.......:punk:

Thank you guys.
The reason for this post is because I have started doing some tiling for a certain company.
Guy said that " none of his tilers had ever self levelled over the cable before and that would push the price up "
I replied that just because they did not do it, did not mean that it was the correct way !
Stood my ground. He accepted my advice.
Just nice to hear that a few of you agree in principle.

Thats what they all say if you sub contract to companys i do work for a local kitchen company ever thing i introduce to them like priming siliconing corners etc they look at me as if im over the top one reply which i found really funny was their last tiler they had from burnley who was supposidly really good they said " sometimes are previous tiler used to silcone tiles on instead of using adhesive and when tiling floors that were uneven they old dot and dab method was used" when i try and explain that this isnt the correct method they look at me and think im nuts probably due to my age they dont take me seriously

Hi All,

I have now been let into the Big boys Room!!!

To be safe than sorry you should always use SLC for the reasons that you have all stated but sometimes using a SLC will raise the height of the floor too much so really the only option would be to go straight over.....just be a little more careful.

The cables are very robust and you would need to do a lot to it in order to damage it but the good old saying of 'Safe than Sorry' is very fitting.
