Ian

I've received an email today from a customer whose conservatory floor I tiled last year to say, there is fungus growing inside the conservatory itself, quite an odd one, but I'm sure that is a damp problem. He contacted the builder who built the conservatory and this is what he has told the customer (this is one of the emails from our conversation)

Hi Brian

John xxxxx has phoned to say he was unable to contact you. He left a message on the answerphone explaining what you had done wrong to cause the damp! Apparently you did not seal the bricks properly and the water bridged the Damp (I assume he means DPC). I will not erase the message so you can hear it when you come round. No explanation for the fungus.

I look forward to hearing from you
Kind regards

Xxxx

Quite comical really, sealing the bricks on a conservatory before tiling  So what if the customer had decided to have carpet in the room? Are floor layers expected to seal bricks to prevent damp. This is a newly built conservatory, with a new slab and DPM.

So there you have it people if you are tiling a conservatory that has internal brickwork, the bricks must be sealed first (not sure what with, PVA probably). I now officially hate builders more than Rich does
