Severe problems with glass tiles (Cutting)

A company I supply drills to are experiencing extreme difficulty cutting a certain type of glass tile.

IF they score and cut in straight lines the glass snaps clean.

If they try to make L shaped cuts the grinders split the glass and splinter it into a rough edge.

They have tried radial saws. Hand grinders. Plasplugs blades, macrist, rubi, brick cutting serated blades, smooth blades.

But nothing they do seems to stop the chipping.

I was in there doing my thing with drill bits when they presented this to me.

Told them I would see if anyone else had come across it and knew how to get an L shape cut.

Have they tried blades made specifically for glass? IIRC, those blades have a very very fine diamond grit, almost like smooth dust, and the blades themselves are really thin and continuous rim. You have to go really slow, with a light touch. Use watercooling.

They could try pre-scoring the tiles with the L-shape as well. If that doesn't work, they might want to try to saw an L-shaped "groove", before actually sawing through the tile. That should remove most of the tension in the tile. If that doesn't work, try making the groove a little bit deeper in increments, about 1-2 mm at a time. I find that this helps with fully vitrified tiles, which are quite close, mechanically speaking, to glass.

Montolit makes a blade specifically for glass called Cermont CPV. (Kwiksplit can probably get them)

Agree with SWE - glass specific blades only. I've never had a problem cutting glass with the right blades.

Rubi make a blade for glass , called a CVG blade......I have one and it is the business on glass tiles from thick to thin ... no probs or chipping......

You will be able to get them from your local CTD branch or from buybrandtools....

I would have thought they would have tried actual glass cutting wheels though.

I use the Makita hand held tile cutter, cuts glass no problems no chipping. It has a very fine blade and not a fast speed so cuts down on vibration and the fact it is a wet cutter nice clean cuts.

I have over a hundred mtrs of glass to put on walls,have about 30mts up last week,no rush on it all but have 600mts of ceramic and porcelain to go with it so im on hunt now for CVG blade !!!! thanks lads.
hope i get more luck than armadillo.
