shower area

Im tiling a shower enclosre next week - the area is plasterboard with some patches of plaster where damage occured when old tiles were removed. Im using white star adhesive. Do i need to prime the walls with anything? My main concern is waterproofing - dont want the tiles to fall off after a week cos of water.

Yup, definitely tank the area if it's just plasterboard, should tank it no matter the substrate really.

thought so - so AA are generally type 1 powdered? Also re: tanking, i was under the assumption that tanking is applied across the entire shower area, i.e. from height of about 2 meters? Am i correct? Just read a post where one fella says to tank to a height of 1 tile from the shower tray.

AA is a type 3 cement adhesive....just tank inside the shower area or the area which is prone to getting wet for prolonged periods.....dave...

can you then tile directly onto tanked walls using white star?

Also, sorry, what is a good but fairly well priced tanking kit? WP1 is too expensive for this customer, what about the Dunlop one? Anygood?

Easiest way to think of AA is water resistant tubbed adhesive.

AA just refers to the adhesives resistance to water..not whether it is tub gear or bagged...if it was tub gear then it would be type 2 AA and if it was cement gear then it would be type 3 AA and so on.....dave...( bs5980:1980 )...

The flipping heck it is. I've only ever seen AA on tubbed. Oops from me then :cry_smile:
