shower room waterproofing

Hi all,
Just about to build shower cubicle in alcove, and wondering what to use to make it future proof - it's in a bedroom above the sitting room so can't have any leakage! Is HardieBacker board any good to tile onto, or what about Aquaboard (this looks pretty dear!), otherwise do I need to use membrane before tiling?
Cheers,
swiftnick

Agreed - Backer board is ok - just make sure original substrate is fixed down as well as can be first (screwed not nailed) Bed the Hardiebacker on adhesive then screw it into the flooring too.

Would also make sure you fully tank the area as well using a membrane as you said

I would use a membrane and they are very easy to install......
