shower side jets

Has anyone any idea how to remove the side jets in a shower ?
Or would you normally just tile around them ?
I've come across some today but can't see how to remove and I dont want to use to much force.

Are they attached to the wall or a shower unit

dont they turn or do they pop off using a screwdriver or something?any pictures as this will make it a little more clearer?

If you're facing the shower head there is one fixed to both walls ( one to the left and one to the right )
I'll try and get some pics.
