I am re-sealing a (builder installed) bath.

It has some whacking gaps to the bottom of the tiles and so it will take far more Silicon than is ideal (& using my referred BAL microban it will be £20 seal) so...

Is there a way to pack it out (a little) first with ano cheaper sealant - acrylic / mastic for eg - to provide a base for the Silicon.

I don't want to adjust / ratchet the bath up on its stands for fear of disrupting the plumbing itself and getting something mechanical in there isn't really an option.

Cheaper Silicon? Anyone use the Screwfix 'no-nonsense' one for eg?

Thanks.

Doesn't sound good at all. I would look to get the builder to pay a professional to retile personally totally at their expense. If this isn't an option, then I would look to use a cheaper sealant for the whole job such as Mapei mapesil or Dow Corning . As Gus says, bath being lifted would be better but all depends if gaps are consistent. Any photos?

Personally, I would jack up the bath to suit. You should be able to move the bath up to an inch without causing any disruption to the pipework. Much more if it was plumbed on flex's. If you already have a gap showing, good chance it will just get worse unless you jack & support it correctly

Cheers. Have done as much as I feel safe with & without dis and reconnecting all the pipe work.

Flexis? You have a giraffe? It was a builder. Amazed they could even get the taps on.

Testament to this, they have knocked out the plasterboard at the non tap end (I thought to fit in as it was a squeeze) but...left it proud of the wall at the t end by a couple of mm. Unbelievable.

I have levelled it & tightened all the supports etc, so it's solid. That done the gaps are uniform and at the 'wide' end of acceptable. I have packed the gap from below and yes, will Silicon it with a cheaper one that BAL.

They really should build houses with empty rooms and the drainage for you to get a competent plumber & tiler in.

It is past the getting the builder back now Bubble sadly

but their 'handywork' is definitely there for all to see.

With it lifted, secured & levelled it looks a lot better, thanks.

Am guessing the baths outta level? why wasn't this issue addressed before tiling?

'Cos he was a dozy, 'that'll do' builder I guess and the old dear that had the house before us didn't snag it or even notice I bet.

When we've got a bit more cash it'll all be out anyway and we'll get it bang on. Cheers.
