Any of you guys had a problem with Silicon discolouring very quickly? The couple of bathrooms that I did recently with fastflex and superplex wide joint grout. Sealant around the edges of floor have gone yellow in various places. Same stuff up the walls and around the bath etc are fine. Just a problem with the floors. Everbuild General Purpose Silicon was used.

Any ideas?

With it just being general purpose Silicon then that's probaly your problem...i use hi-modulas Silicon as these type resist staining from cleaning products etc.. which might of been the cause of discolouring....this type of silcone is anti-fungal aswell......dave..

Thanks for that Dave. I have just checked out the Everbuild site and the Silicon that I have used is classed as a"diy" product. Bit annoying really as I purchased it from my usual, reputable supplier. I am going to have to go back and do the floor edging again, though not had "the call" yet. Shame really as it goes on really well and gives quite a bit of time before it skins (15mins or so). And it is supposed to be anti-fungal as well.Never mind, we live and learn.:(

Sanitary Silicon is what you need for bathrooms / kitchens etc. Anti Mould formula.

Stuff I used was anti fungal, but I foolishly assumed it was "sanitary grade" as I purchased it from my tiling dealer. Obviously wrong!

I have used BAL microseal stuff before as well, but it doesn't go on as well as the everbuild stuff did. Will probably try everbuild santiary grade next then.:)
