Slate cladding

Hello all

i would be grateful of some advice if possible regarding sealing slate cladding tiles. I'm about to fix these in a bathroom. Can someone advise me the best way to go about sealing them and how many times you would seal them. when sealing them should i just coat them and leave the sealer to dry into the tile or should i wipe the tile down after a certain time. Should I seal the backs?
I plan to seal them before fixing them and then give them another coat once they're up. I've sealed one to we what the finish would be like and I noticed that as it was drying it had a sticky feel to it.

On one wall in a shower area. This wall will have the shower fixings on it as well.

You will need to tank the wall.

You will get water ingress through these slips.

Seal them before fixing & reseal once fixed, don't seal the backs.

I would not fit these in a shower area personally. They will harbour all sorts of germs and bacteria and are notoriously difficult to clean. Better as a feature on a large wall if possible.

Hi. Thank u for your replies. Last couple of questions hopefully. When sealing would you just let the sealant soak in naturally or would I need to wipe the tiles down after a period of time. Also I was planning on using either a 10mmx10mm squared notched or a 10mm deep x 20mm wide half round notched trowel. Which one would be best. Many thanks.

deffo wouldn't fit those in a wet area....imo there cladding tiles, meant to go on a feature wall away from wet areas....are you planning on trying to grout them..?

No I've been told not to grout them and to be honest having seen them I can see why.

Have you mentioned at all to the customer the possibility that these aren't suitable for a shower???

Don't use them in a shower, water WILL go through, even on a feature wall they are a nightmare to grout

This has been mentioned to the customer and the problems with these tiles but she's had them fixed in the shower of another place so she's set on these tiles.
