On one wall in a shower area. This wall will have the shower fixings on it as well.

Good luck to the plumber fitting the shower/rail, it would be like trying to fix it to the side of a cliff!

Dave, I'm using lithofin slate seal. What would you recommend trowel size wise. Was planning to use 10mm.

As i thought .. you cannot use that type of sealer in a wet area...

Fila do some great sealers... i like W68 and for those slate clads i would spray the sealer on, i have to agree with the suitability of these for a wet area etc but your customer seems set on using them... 10mm trowel and back butter fixing to a tanked background is my advice...

Cheers Dave. I'll look into that. Could I use stain stop as oppose to slate seal which leaves a gloss finish. Do I need to wipe the tile down after I've sprayed them.

Stain stop is ok , just i like water based sealers now.. no more stinky rooms and headaches.. as with all sealers , remove any excess that has not soaked in after 15 mins or so..

Cheers Dave. Just out of curiosity how would I know how many coats would be needed. Also from your experience what is the main reason for not using slate seal on these tiles in the shower. Cheers.

A topical sealer is not to be used in a wet area... it can bloom..

As for how many coats , once the stone stops absorbing sealer , then it is sealed,but it must be allowed to dry between coats.

Cheers for all your advise Dave. I'm going to use ltp grout sealer which should be adequate for the shower/bathroom area.
