Slate lite thin veneer tiles

well i had this tested a few years ago after one of my staff who handle it got a reaction
and got back a 200 page report from ceram the long and short of it was a modern version of asbestos if you cut it without a full face mask and extractors you run a high
risk of fibra glass partials reaching the lungs X the loose partials on the face could cause rashes that i had already seen .and if it catches fire it gives out more carcinogenics than you can shake a stick at . the company that tried to sell this to me
had reports all did not match mine .i dont know if they have solved these problems
but there is an easy way to tell .if you push your hand across the face do you get small
splinters in your palm of fibra glass or if you put a lighter to the courner does it start
to burn giving off a thick black acrid smoke .PS any time you cut fibra glass you release
thousands of partials into the air do it again and again there will only be one out come
for you in the end X.

I'd be more worried about the fibreglass particles than the carcinogens and before anyone jumps down my throat think about how you get to work every day and what you get up to on your *** break...

I have just spotted this post and want to let you guys know -

The product from Porcelanosa 'Air Slate' and the product manufactured by Slate Lite are different.

The Air Slate uses less resin on the backing so the fibreglass is exposed, whereas the Slate Lite product uses a thicker layer of resin which covers the fibreglass.

So there is a difference in quality and I have seen projects where the air slate has come away from its backing leaving a bubble type effect on a floor and wall, this has never happened with the Slate Lite material.

If you stroke the backing of a slate lite sheet it will not effect your skin, do the same with air slate and you can come out in rashes. So whilst cutting the air slate you are far more likely to breath in the fibreglass. You can easily avoid breathing the dust from the sheets by pouring some water over the back of the sheet whilst cutting to keep the dust down.

We cut samples using a dewalt D24000 wet saw and this completely keeps the dust down and prevents breathing any of this in. You can also wear mask a for extra protection in the same way you would to avoid breathing in silica whilst working with granite or quartz composite materials.

The Slate Lite slate veneer has been tested and has reached fire protection class Cfl-s1.

I've been using this product recently and its great, looks the part as well easy to instal. a dream to cut flys up in no time. all my tools are dust extracted so no problem with the dust for me
