hey stingray

I'm not sure that roof slate would be thick enough and strong enough to walk on to be honest. I'm sure there was a similar thread about a similar topic not too long ago. I'll see if I can find it for you.

I can't imagine that roof slates were designed to take the weight of a human being :20:

Abstract tiling

alot of the tiles are 10mm +m in size.

would they not be strong enough?

the customer was looking the fire place done aswell with them, would that be ok??
cnt see the fireplace being a problen mate, but im thinking tha with roof slates as they get too the edges of the tiles they get very brittle and if there is heavy traffic going over them it will only be a matter of time before the corners and edges start 2 break, maybe im wrong but thats my thought.

Are you looking to lay them like a crazy paving  or do you intend to collate/cut/dress/prepare the material into a design.
If as you say its your 2nd job, IMO you will be out of your depth to undertake this project.
However looking at the photo of the tiles I personally believe that it could look extremely interesting!
The material looks to be of good composition and certainly thicker than some supplied by importers.

Timeless John.

PS. It wouldn't be cheap in the long run if price is the issue as I would no doubt charge 4 times as much than if they were 300x300mm pieces.

I really wouldnt want to be putting roof tiles on the floor - as a few others have said, they are not strong enough, will be too brittle around the edges and over time you are asking for trouble

didnt see the pics first time round - or the fact you say they are 10mm ish.

Could look very interesting when done and would love to see the pics

i was thinking of doing random design, would that be the best idea or try and cut them into squares.

there is some tile that are more than 20mm thick!!

the tiles came of an old cottage home. l would say they are years old.

they do look pretty strong though

i will lay some pieces out flat 2moro and take some pics and then see what yous think of them!!

thanks

If i was to make a suggestion it would either be to cut them into strips of 50mm width and random lengths and fix them exactly as the flooring is at present.
Or to cut them into tiles of 200x75mm and fix them in a Herringbone pattern - at 45degrees not square.

Timeless John.

l dont have a wetsaw, l have a grinder with a good blade in it ( diatech )
l like the idea of the random lengths. think that would look very good!!
