Hi all , i am thinking of tiling an outside seating area with slate tiles just wondered if anyone has had any experience with this and knows weather they get slippery when wet like wooden decks , and if so weather they know of any products that can be used to negate this. also does slate tend to flake up a bit given our lovely climate with freezing etc , thanks

I done a patio in Indian sandstone (very similar to picture above), I used bidiford sand and cement mix to lay, then I got a red colour powder to grout, looked lovely. Had no issues with slippery serface as sandstone was rough and porous. As for the slate, you can get Skid Safe water based sealer that'll do the job nicely. Hope this helps.

Most good riven slates will be suitable, ( if external grade)slip generally come from fine alge or spore which will produce with time ,climate and situation of the garden, a general alge remover ( we have Algex ) can be used to keep on top of this, if problematic.
Spalling, delamination can occur if puddling of excess water, this generates salt which can then bloat and loosen stone, not generally a problem as looks the same, salts can be delt with an occasional acidic wash ( after testing)
