Hi folks,

I am building a new house on the sight of an old stone croft house, I saved 200 or so Welsh slates from the roof of the old house and would like to use them on the floor of the new house, The tiles are a little flakey and rough around the edges with two nail holes at the top, I would like to cut the tiles to a uniform size but this would lead to the thickness of the edges being uneven? Has any body out there used old roof tiles before and if so could you please repply.
Cheers Keith

yes i did around 14 yrs or so ago.... just make sure you have a solid bed of adhesive.. and feather edge the grout to avoid sharp edges etc..

What are you putting them on wooden, concrete is the house brand new if so you need different adhesives to suit the floor which is underneath the slate. What Dave said is good advice but check what floor before startng to lay.

Yes there is a substrate to take into account as well keith... thanks nando.. slipped my mind..

Hi folks, thanks for the replies,

The floor of my new house is one big concrete slab 125mm thick with with under floor heating pipes running through at 200mm centers, What is the best way to feather the edges, and could I sand blast the tiles to clean them up and would they need to be painted with some type of sealent ?
