Discuss Slicing large stone slabs in the UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

(not sure if this should be here or the cutting bit, mods move if needed, ta)

I'm putting a proposal together for a large piece of work, approx 6m x 10m. Basically it's using a variety of stone to create a picture. I need to know if anyone's used any companies which have machines capable of slicing large stone slabs? I'm looking at water jets too. The larger they can cut the better. The part of the country isn't too important so long as they are within dricing distance of East Anglia.

The larger they can cut the better, ideally 1m x 1m pieces.

Cheers

Lawrence, quite a few stone quarries provide a cutting service, and ship the ready cut slabs to you in palletts, but it's expensive, and you have to pay for all the stone used before it is cut - that gets priced by type, weight and quality, plus the cutting, too. But that is the quickest option, as the transport to your place and then to the laser cutters and back will all add up.. so do phone around stone quarries first, Pebbs might be able to help you with that anyhow.

Is that yours jay?. I was commissioned to do the same in a mosaic. Water jet cutting is awesome technology now. I saw a tv show where they were rebuilding a cathedral in europe and cut all the marble blocks to shape and size by this method. Fast becoming an attractive way to present steel and stone.
