I use rapid set all the time on floors. ..and the quicker it gose off the better. .
You just need to be organised. ..dry cut all your tiles first have all your tools close to hand. ...make sure once you've mixed up all your doing is sticking down tiles..

your right I need to get myself better organised and work tidier...im fed up of constantly losing my tools when im working and keep finding spacers stuck to my trowel when im spreading

So if your doing a 10m2 floor. ..would you go back the next day and grout?
Or use rapid and complete in 1 day.
I grout the next day regardless what adhesive I've used...I've normally lost the will to live by the end of the tiling that I couldn't face the grouting...i like to start fresh the next day

Fair point. In that instance, and if it was only the floor I was doing then yes I would use rapid. But thats small enough to cope with as you go.
But for example I've just done a 24sqm floor in 600x600 polished porcelain. Kitchen, diner, hallway and cloakroom. All done in slow set and client has to stay off it.
Basically if it's small enough to be done in a day then yes rapid will be used. But to be honest even a 10sqm floor I'd be happy doing it over a couple of days rather than rush through in a day.

Anybody tried that bal variset where you add the chemical retardant quantities yourself depending how fast you need I to go off, is it still available? used it once about 4 or 5 years ago on a floor customer supplied materials for and not seen it since.

Funny how different tilers work in different ways.
Tiling a hallway, cloakroom, kitchen dinner I would deffo use rapid as I find it handy tiling areas and being able to stand on them within a couple of hours.
As always its whatever works for you. .

Tilemaster Adhesives have launched a Semi Rapid Set (S1) which may be of use when the weather is hot or a longer pot life is needed. It will last between 90-120 minutes in the bucket (lots of time for a cuppa) and can be grouted after 6 hours. Going off too quick in Britain isn't something we need to worry about for long with the summers we get.
