Small glass mosaics - marmox showerlay

Hi all, just installed a marmox showerlay for customer & now tanked & ready to tile, however customer has now changed her mind on floor tiles on tray from 100mm travertine to 10mm glass mosaics. this wouldn't normally be a problem except that i know small mosaics can indent into this type of tray (ie sink into foam structure). explained this to customer but she now has her heart set on glass mosaics. I now need to somehow strengthen tray with a harder but thin layer which hopefully wont involve retanking. All i can think of is some kind of mesh or perhaps 6mm hardiebacker formed to tray & stuck with good adhesive say keraquick or similar, any suggestions greatly appreciated.

yep marmox state 50mm minimum & boards are quite easy to dent with knee etc wonder if thin hardiebacker board between tray & tile would work....

Probs to late now but the Marmox showerstone tray would have been an option..

If you use hardi then can the drain cover still adjust to suit the extra height.. not used marmox tray for a while so not sure on what adjustment you have.. i think it is fixed isn't it.. apart from the plastic spacer

Or you tell the customer to either change the mosaics or stump up for a suitable tray.

Dave the tiles are 5mm thick & hardiebacker 6mm so would sit well with drain, just concerned whether there would be problems with hardiebacker sandwiched further down the line?

Not something I have had to do, so cannot say whether it will work and last
IMO she needs to re-choose

just came across this thread while researching for my new bathroom .
the product sheet states mosaic tiles as little as 50 square mm , which means mosaic down to the size 7.1mm x 7.1mm could be used.

I hope you didn't rip it up again

Have you got a link to this info? I'm pretty sure it'll be 50mm square, not 50 square mm.

Im sure if Deano pops on later he'll confirm, but im certain its 50mmx50mm.

Schluter pre-formed shower bases can be used with any size mosaic. I was talking to Schluter about it this week as it happens.
Most bases cant be used with mosaics under 50mm x 50mm.

I see. I think that should be read as "50mm squared" rather than "50 square mm"

Yeah I read that as 50mm square, as in 5cm x 5cm.
