has anyone used these babys before? and do they work

im considering getting them if it means i can get to work for the rest of the winter,as this taking days of because its snowing is becoming a nonssense

Yes, they work, grew up with them, not so difficult to put on either, it's basically, ( or used to be) a hook on, drive/roll on, hook up the end, and off you go. The draw back with them is that on clear roads the jigger up the tarmac, (there are certain usage laws in Germany for them) no idea how it works here) and probably your tires, too, but up in Scotland sounds a good idea for sure...

yep. great bits of kit in the snow, but as G rightly says you need to pull over and remove them once you are on cleared roads and refit them when you are back on uncleared roads, bit of a pain but at least you can get about. one word of caution , you can drive faster on the snow but you cant stop any quicker so take care when braking

We used to have the ones with more 'cells', so can't comment on the type you've chosesn, but there are enough images of them to suggest they are good enough! The two directions of chain means grip forward and to the side, you need both, so that's fine ...

I have some. Legal requirement in the Alps which is why I have them. They work great, but really only use them when its bad out, as they will screw up the road and your vehicle if there isnt any snow on the ground.

My problem is that in England, when its so snowy I need snow chains, and I can get to work, I still need the Site Agent to be able to get to work. But being on a salary, they can pretty much just take time off.

cheers lads n lasses so if i came of a back road full of snow onto a gritted main road id have to stop and change them?

Not worth the hassle...... get yourself good a set of winter tyres and wheels, to put on this time of year. I've tried chains before and you have to take them off when the snows too soft or disappears and can be quite a pain. If it's bad enough to need them, you need to stay inside.

they are horrible to change when they are packed full of snow but driving on a hard surface will shake your fillings out as well as wrecking your van

I think they are better to have as back up in case you get into snow that you cant get a grip on

I would say just to get some snow tyres on the drive wheels..

one of my bosses lives in Pieve in Italy and by law over there they have to have a set of normal tyres and a set of winter tyres.

Grumpygrouter has some winter tyres on his missus' car and he says it makes driving in the bad conditions more bearable.

These are supposed to be good and no need to take them on and off when your hitting snow / tarmac patches, but you'd wear them out pretty quick if you drove over tarmac for prolonged lenghts of time.
