I was in the local tile shop today and there was a few tilers in there bragging about how busy they were and how much they are charging per m2 these guys were saying they wouldnt leave home for less than £35 pounds a metre and they were literally rushed off their feet ,when they asked me how work was I admitted we were fairly quiet and were calling round all our contacts trying to drum up some new business and catching up on admin etc anyway these tilers left and the tile shop manager told me that the tilers had not bought any materials for weeks and were in there a couple of days earlier saying that didnt have any work if he heard of any work to put it their way, they had even asked him if he needed anything done in the showroom they would do it for £80 per day
I dont understand why someone would make up stories about prices and work load if they are really quiet

See it all the time. Sad thing is some of them are decent tilers, it's their attitude that stops them getting the work.

I can't stand that sort of thing, it seems to be rife in this industry, I can't see what the problem is with being quiet sometimes, I actually quite enjoy it, it's less stressful and gives you time to catch up on other important things in life. The guys are muppets Gary.

I'm glad to be back in action again after a quiet 2 weeks and i aint afraid to tell anyone!
I was in tile shop today too and they know i was quiet too,like them.
They told me same story, men in most handing in cards etc but they only recommend about 4 or 5 tilers and i'm happy to be one of them.
Hope it picks up Gary and there's no shame in being quiet.

A lot of tilers can talk a good job, I have met loads over the years. I like people who can "Walk the walk," not just talk the talk.

There is, on the other hand though, the point of positive talk being better than spreading negativity, it's largely the American approach, it just doesn't work if it's obviously exaggerated and if people don't understand what being positive means really....

good luck to you GARY i hope it gets better for you soon ,i know you are great tiler budd,hang in there, i when through a patch a while ago myself , and it was the guys on here that gave me a bit of hope, i must admit i don't understand guys telling lie's about work , if you need it you need it simple as that,

i was talking to a tiler/bathroom fitter yesterday in the local tile shop as i was tiling new displays, he told me he's earning a 1000 to 1200 quid a week but it was only a couple of months ago he underpriced me on a bathroom (5/6 days work) that i priced at £650! why waffle?
