Hi Sparky
It depends on your own natural ability, if your generally OK with DIY tasks and listen very carefully, you will hit the ground running when you leave the course as many many others have done. Start off with the jobs that you can manage, take your time and build your confidence up that way, any new job takes a bit time to adapt to, even if you were on a six months course you would still find it strange out in the real world at first.

Short courses are excellent to get started. Do a course, do a few jobs and if need be, simply re-visit the centre for a top-up. Much better than trying to soak in lots of information over a longer period of time, i think anyway.

Start with a few family and friends jobs if you're not fully confident, get the speed up a little and see if you make any mistakes and then if you have questions, call or visit the centre you trained at or get on you computer and ask on here. :)
