What tile do you prefer to use on an outside step?

porcelain for me,fully vitrified.

Is the brand of tile SUMMITVILLE sold in the UK? They are a company based in Ohio,and their quarry tile and thin brick is indestructable. Their stuff is used in metro stations, fast food restaurants, public buildings, etc. I use their tile on steps and sidewalks.

Just curious if they sell outside of the US.

Summitville Tiles, Inc.


Long ago, I saw a show on TV about a quarry in Wales (I don't recall the name) that is used for the clay to make quarry tiles. Maybe because of shipping costs the Summitville stuff isn't sold over there and the Wales-based product is more cost-effective?

Rob - the only Welsh tiles that I'am aware of were Dennis Ruabon Quarries.
A great product and wonderful natural colours.
However they went out of business earlier this year ( there was talk of a buy out!).
I did a job in April and had to buy stock from all over England to complete it. ( it was my entry to JOTM April - did I mention I came second)

Its a combination of 3 colours in Ruabon Red,Flame,Heather brown and used as the inset and border to a multicolour slate.
