Got a job to sort out for a builder on a Natural stone floor that has cracked due to screed cracking, i didn't lay this floor just been asked repair this area. So if your thinking about having under floor heating, on a new screed floor, i would advise using a uncoupling membrane. I know it puts extra cost on the job!! If you don't check out my web site and give me a ring in 6 months and i will come and repair it!!

Hi Enduro,

Must be the season for it! Just spent 2 weeks repairing a floor, exactly the same scenario as yours, got loads of pics, will post them up soon, what I did was remove the tiles, ground out 5mm screed, laid in dural matting over the cracked subfloor and relaid tile over, in a "cost saving attempt" for the builder :incazzato:. Absolute nightmare of a job , started off as 9 tiles, ended up being 50 odd, and still cracks appearing in other areas. Not tiled by me originally I hasten to add. I can see it being all ripped up again in 6 months when the u/fl heating goes back on. In my opinion NEVER EVER lay stone on u/fl heated screeds without decoupler, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Just had another enquiry, Cracked tiles on underfloor heating...no membrane. floor has only been laid for 7 months. Asked customer if floor screed was dry, he said the builder tiled it one week after the screed was laid!! Was the underfloor heating commissioned before tiling...No it wasn't connected!! Mentioned membrane...he said builder never mention it. Floor is 70sqm...wants cracked tiles replaced, tiles cleaned and re-sealed and want new conservatory laid with the same tiles. But not cracked ones!!
