Hi Guys, This is my first post, I have been looking at the forum for a while and must says it’s great, I like how you all try and help and a very good source of information.

I am due to tile a 10m2 bathroom, most of the initial prep is done, and tomorrow I plan to fix Hardie 500 (12mm) to the T&G with Keraflex, leaving 5 mm expansion around each and screw down at 300 centres. (I have already cut and dry fitted the Hardie so don’t want to change it if possible) Tape the joints, prime & lay heated floor (Vame) then test, record readings etc. This will then be covered with 4 mm of fiberplan.

Hopefully on Monday after it is dry will lay Ditra with Kerde on the walls in wet area’s, the shower tray is Pro4ma which gives 10mm above floor before tiles and adde which will be Keraquick with latex plus, Floor tiles are 600X600 porcelain 8mm and the pebbles that I have yet to see are 8 To 10mm (they are the flat type, was originally told 14 to 16 mm deep.)

My worry is getting the levels correct for the rest of the bathroom and the mosaic pebble in the shower tray, looks like I am 6mm adrift (the idea of changing to pebbles happened late in the day, Have had to forget my original plan and as I never used mosaic pebbles before I could do with some help) thought I would put an expansion strip across the door and then also across the pebble to tile joint. Finally the whole job will be finished using Ultracolor Plus beige.

Sorry to post on Friday night but any help suggestions would be appreciated.

:welcome:Michael.
If you are 6mm short in height on the rest of the floor to the shower forma you could add an extra 6mm Hardie backer board!
Got your PM reference Victorian tiles - not able to help with any stock!

Thanks John, The problem is the main floor height is going to end up say 28 mm and the shower tray will be lower at say 22mm. the metal former and tray sit on the original wood floor and add just 10mm the addie and the pebbles add say 10 to 12 mm total 22mm the main floor is Hardie 12 mm, SLC 4mm, Ditra 3mm, adde 2mm and tile 8mm so 28mm. Concerned about the level and also waterproofing at the floor tile to tray. Tray alreay in an it sits on joists so cant build it up with Hardie 250. Need a :8: your in the book re V Tiles

mosaic pebbles in the tray? look great but they will regret it, firstly for how uncomfortable it will be under foot and secondly it won't drain away too easy. The grout needs to be half way up the pebble as any more than this it will be a big slab of grout

Re: Stone pebbles possible problem solved!

I Think they said Chisel, We have solved the problem by adding Hardie 250 (6mm) under the shower tray all around where it contacts the T&G and under the body of the tray to raise the tray and keep contact with the supporting joists, so far so good.

I was going to skip the Hardie 500 as suggested but it was quicker to build up the tray, Thanks John and Captain slow for helping me think about using Hardie 250.

As for the pebbles they are Flat so easy on the feet .( That’s why it moved from 14mm deep pebble Mosaic to 10mm) I am not looking forward to grouting then sealing but that another day Hi Color Republic, agree it will look great, but cause some problems, not my call.

Looks like another late on tonight.:moon:

Pebbles like this , If so they are flat and providing to are good with grouting it shouldnt be a problem.

Re: Stone pebbles grouting

Thanks Sir Ramic,

That is the type but lighter with some Beige Pinks and Whites, don’t they Just look great in the picture!

Any tips on grouting and sealing them? My plan was to use Ultracolr Plus as we are using that on the rest but no experience with this kind of stone.

My method was to lightly go over the clean and dry floor with a sponge with sealer. The sponge was damp, not wet with the sealer. I did this twice and the next morning i grouted. I mixed the grout up fairly still but workable and when i thought it was ready to be cleaned off i went over with a damp...not wet Washboy system. The sealer worked well and it left nice full joints.

Feel better about it now, looked at the rest of the pictures, nice breakfast bar using the pebbles to match the floor, nice job, what sealer did you use?
