Straight edges

what do you use for a straight edge when floor tiling...?

I have a 6ft level and use that..

what do you use..?..have you had something made up or just maybe a feather edge or summit.

6' level for me too along with a plasters 1.8m feather if I need it.

Dito Dave, i use my 6 footer too,stanley max.
Works really well and easily cleaned off when needed.

I use levels 4ft and 6ft depending on size and agree with the pevious cleaning comment.

I have a couple of 2.5m aluminium box section straight edges.

6' & 4' level ( depending ) at the moment, I used to use a feather edge but it got left on one of my Lil' Bru's jobs and his mate claimed it :incazzato:

Dave - The first real straight edge I had was the inner frame of a alliminium double glazed window unit about 8 feet long.
I then paid over £100 for a 3metre boxed alliminium level - which lasted 1 day when an employee used it to run a barrow load of cement up into a conservatory screed - yes the one I've got on my thread TJ2 18 years ago!
Now I'am the proud owner of half a dozen 2.5/3.00 mt levels all fully covered in adhesive and 24mm wide metal shelf supports for the spacing in the victorian tiling.
But certainly an offer of a new straight edge for July JOTM would go down well!

Funny you should say that john...some lads i seen laying cobbles a few weeks back were using a window section as a straight edge..:smilewinkgrin: it was about 4 mtrs long and with it bieng alloy it was nice and light for one man ..

my old man's a brickie and they use straight edges "profiles" at 2.5m long,he gets them made up from an engineer friend of mine,they use them so the don't have to build corners and is constantly telling me i should get him to make me some up,these are made from aluminium also and last him about a year each set,which is good going from the battering they take on sites
the now i'll just stick with the 2m spirit level until it's raedy the bin
