Stramit Board

Good morning all.

I am in the process of decorating my bathroom and have found two walls made of Stramit board (2.5" thick compressed straw panel with a paper/cardboard face). One of the walls is painted (I can easily sand/scratch that up I suppose to give a good key). What would you recommend with regards to preparation? Can I treat it like plasterboard?

Also, I've read so many conflicting pieces of advice regarding tiling on ply; I have boxed in some pipes etc in the bathroom using ply (not in the bath area so not subject to jets of water). Do I really only need to bond/seal the back and sides of the ply and not the actual tiling surface?

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark,
I have never heard of stramit board but from your description it sounds unsuitable to take tiles, I have no idea what its weight capabilities would be? Bond the ply on the edges and face with a quality sbr.

:thumbsup:

is there a possibility of removing the stramit board and replacing with tile backer board a better option to tile on,or even overboard and fix through to good fixings mate :thumbsup:

Dave you are like the scarlet pimpernel, you nip in, quick reply and then off.

:lol::lol:

Thanks for all the answers guys, I have contacted Stramit and I'll see what they come back with. I'll post their comments when I get them...
