Hi All,
I have a job coming up soon that poses a bit of a dilemma and would like your advice and opinions please, its an upstairs bathroom floor in an old cottage, the floorboards have been badly re-laid at some time and are 22mm chipboard, the floor is solid with no movement but definitely not flat or level, varying by up to 15mm in places, my first thought was to put some SLC onto the chipboard to get it level and take out any dips or lumps, then 12mm Hardiebacker fixed with SPF after priming chipboard with SBR and screwed at 200mm centres with Fibataped joints, then the Sparky has 6mm insulation board to lay for the electric UFH, so I was going to fix them to the Hardie for him with SPF(as well as his mechanical fixings), then encase the UFH with SLC and then fix the tiles with SPF, any suggestions please guys and girls?, I did umm and err about putting 12mm ply down instead of Hardiebacker but I do prefer the Hardie even though I understand it does not provide any actual strength benefits (although I don't actually believe this), building up the height is not an issue as there is roughly 40mm at the door threshold at the lowest point, the room is roughly 2.4 x 2.4 and the tiles are 60 x 60 x 10mm porcs.
