Supply/ Buying tiles

just a quick question. How many of you, buy/supply tiles for customers.


I do, sometimes, but after talking to the guy at Business Gateway, i don't think i will any more. He pointed out, that the cost would be included in my turnover. I did a job a few months ago, where the tiles cost, 1500+mats+labour. It wouldn't take too many jobs like that to take you close to the tax theshhold.

I don't buy tiles for that reason and it's just to much hassle if you get knocked, not that I do, there's so much variation and all the extra running around picking the tiles up, not for me

I do from time to time, but if there's going to be a large outlay, I get the customers to pay for them there and then, and I just collect them if they can't get them in their car (for a small fee of course). I don't think I'm close enough to the tax threshold to worry! Big issue anyone? :lol:

Exactly, but if you have a big turnover already and are already paying \ charging VAT, then no difference really.

You could always work out a price right for both of you for the tiles and get the cash of the customer and pick them up when you get the materials, but it's not the most taxman friendly approach :lol:

I don't mind picking tiles up, for them. but i wont be puting them through my account.

I prefer to supply as I'm already over the vat threshold with other building jobs.
Always get the client to pay upfront or on delivery.
If they want me to pick tiles up I find out the stores delivery charge, then quote the client under it by a few quid. I've already got to get the adhesive, etc, so might aswell cover the cost by collecting tiles at same time.

Price of tiles to client is just under the retail they'd pay walking through the doors.
They perceive a good saving being made, I get mark-up to cover business running costs.
